Team Recaps

Great Britain: The Brits had a tough test early in the tournament. Starting off against the Netherlands, it wasn't until early in the second period when Great Britain opened the scoring. They would score early in the third before the Netherlands came back and tied the game. Goals by Jordan Cownie and Bobby Chamberlain minutes later would be enough for the Brits, as they would take their first game 4-2. Great Britain had a bad start against Lithuania, as they were down 2-0 after the first despite outshooting them. The Brits did come back, scoring once in the second and two midway through the third to take the lead. Lithuania would tie it up minutes later. Once again, goals by Cownie (seconds later) and Chamberlain (late in the period on an empty net) helped the Brits win again. Great Britain didn't have too much trouble against Romania, as a pair of goals late in the first gave them the lead. It would stay that way throughout the game (Great Britain with the lead), as once again Cownie would score (twice this time) in the third. The Brits won 5-2. Great Britain would get a scare against South Korea. They would finish the first down 1-0 before a 3-goal second period help them take the lead. A 2-man disadvantage would cost the Brits the lead early in the third. Chamberlain would come through later on though, as he completed his hat trick midway through the period. The lead was not meant to be, as South Korea tied the game up a minute and a half later. This game would go all the way to a shootout, where "Clutch" Cownie scored twice to give Great Britain the win. With promotion guaranteed, the Brits would cap off their tournament with a 3-1 win over Estonia. Great Britain won all their games, and has secured a place in Division I for next year.

Lithuania: It was close for Lithuania, but in the end they could not come through. They stared out rough against Romania, going down 3-1 at one point. Every time Lithuania clawed back to tie the game, Romania would find a way to take the lead. Ugnius Cizas would be the savoir for Lithuania, as he scored with about 20 seconds left in regulation to force overtime. Lithuania would eventually win in the shootout, getting the result in a high scoring game where they outshot Romania 55-28. Lithuania looked keep their momentum going against Great Britain, and it looked like they would as they ended the first period up 2-0. Lithuania's demise though was a slow burn. They would allow a goal when they were on a 2-man advantage in the second, then would give up the lead with two quick goals against in the third. Lithuania would tie it up minutes later, but that lasted just seconds as Great Britain answered back. Lithuania would find the back of the net once more, but only after Great Britain scored on an empty net. Lithuania would be on the losing end of a high scoring game this time, as they fall 5-4. The Lithuanians rebounded against South Korea. A 4-goal second period help propel them to their first regulation win of the tournament. Lithuania would be involved in another high scoring a game, this time against Estonia. Lithuania would score three unanswered special teams goals in the first before giving up two of their own. Estonia would tie it up in the second, but Lithuania scored twice afterwards. Lithuania was able to withstand Estonia's comeback attempt in the third, hanging on to win the game 6-4. Lithuania would finish off their tournament against the Netherlands. Things didn't look good for the Lithuanians, as they finished the first period tied before going down 2 after the second. Lithuania did manage to tie the game in the third, but a penalty in overtime would cost them. They lost the game 4-3. Just like last year, Lithuania finished the tournament in second place.

South Korea: As Olympic host in four years, this tournament was a good one for the young Koreans. The newcomers to the group came out firing against Estonia, scoring twice and outshooting them 19-3 in the first period. Their play would start slipping though, as Estonia eventually tied the game in the third. South Korea would end up victorious, beating Estonia in the shootout. South Korea would start slow against the Netherlands, giving up 2 goals in the first. The Koreans would come back though, scoring once in the second period and twice in the third to complete the comeback and win the game. South Korea would end up getting their first lost against Lithuania, as the Koreans were beaten 5-1. Koreans looked to upset a favoured Great Britain. South Korea would strike in the first period, but would give up the lead in the second. The Koreans would have to tie the game up twice in the third period to force extra time. The upset was not meant to be though, as South Korea would fall to Great Britain in a shootout. South Korea would finish off their tournament with a 6-3 win over Romania. South Korea ended up in third place, which is a pretty good result for this team's first go-around in this group.

Netherlands: The Netherlands started out with a tough game against Great Britain. They did well for the most part, holding the Brits to one goal and outshooting them through two periods. The Netherlands did go down 2-0, but were able to score two unanswered to tie the game. In the end, it was not meant to be, as the Netherlands gave up two goals late in the third and ended up losing the game. The Dutch looked to rebound against South Korea, and they looked good early on, scoring twice in the first period and doubling their opponent in shots. Their lead would slowly disintegrate, as they gave up a goals midway though the second and third period. The Netherlands would take a penalty late in the third, which ended up sealing their fate in this game. The Netherlands would lose 3-2. The Dutch would finally end up in the win column, dominating Estonia to the tune of 7-0. The Netherlands would fall against Romania in their next game. With both teams swapping 2-1 periods, the third would not be kind to Holland. They gave up three goals in the closing frame to lose the game 6-3. The Netherlands would close out their tournament against Lithuania. Holland would end the first tied 1-1 before scoring twice in the second. They faltered in the third though, as they allowed Lithuania to tie the game. Holland would get the last laugh though, as Kilian van Gorp would score on the powerplay in overtime to end the Dutch's tournament on a high note. The Netherlands finish the tournament in fourth place, earning half as many points as they did last year.

Estonia: It was a disappointing tournament for the host. They started off the tournament getting outplayed by South Korea. Down 2-0 after the first period, Estonia would swap goal with the Koreans in the second before scoring two of their own in the third. The game would go to a shootout, where Estonia could not keep up with the Koreans in goals. The host would lose their opener 4-3. Estonia would look to bounce back against Romania. They came out firing in the first - literally. Estonia outshot Romania 31-9 in the first period, but could not find the back of the net. They would break the deadlock in the second, but Romania would strike back minutes later. Estonia would finally get the lead for good in the third, scoring three times (while giving up one) to win the game 4-2. Estonia would fall flat against the Netherlands. The host gave up multiple goals in each period, ultimately losing the game 7-0. Things didn't improve for Estonia early on against Lithuania, as they gave up 3 goal in the first. While the host did manage to get 2 back in the first and tie it up early in the second, they ended the second period down 2 goals. Estonia would claw back within one, but that was as for as they would get to tying the game. They would lose 6-4. The host would end their tournament against Great Britain. While they managed to keep it close, the only goal Estonia would get was off a penalty shot by Vadim Vasjonkin. Estonia lost the game 3-1. Estonia ended the tournament in fifth, managing to avoid relegation thanks to their win over Romania.

Romania: Despite earing more points this year (4) than last year (3), Romania did not do enough to stay in this group. Starting against Lithuania, Romania would fall behind early but finish the first period tied at a goal a piece. They started the second well, scoring twice in the first 5 minutes. Once again though, Romania would end the period tied. It looked like Romania would win the game in the third. After both teams swapped goals, Hugo Gecse would score on a 2-man advantage late in the third to put Romania up 5-4. But it was seconds later when Romania would get penalized, and Lithuania would answer back with a powerplay goal of their own to tie the game again. Romania just couldn't come away with the victory, as they would lose in the shootout. Romania would find themselves in a similar game against Estonia, as they were outshot by a wide margin (including giving up 31 shots in the first period). They would hold tight though, keeping the first and second periods tied. Romania would fall behind for good in the third, and ran out of time in their comeback attempt. They suffered their first regulation lost of the tournament with the 4-2 loss. Romania's losing streak would continue against Great Britain, as they were defeated 5-2 by the eventual champs. The Romanians finally found the win column, beating the Netherlands 6-3 thanks to a 3-goal third period. Romania found itself on the other side of that score line against South Korea. While they did manage to open the scoring and regain the lead in the second period, a 4-goal period by South Korea ended Romania's hopes of ending this tournament on a high note. Romania finishes sixth in this tournament and will spend next year in Group B.
