2017 World Junior Championship - Division II Group B Preview

Last year's finalist Spain gets to host this year's edition of the U20 Division II Group B tournament. Australia, Belgium, and Serbia all return, as all of them look to improve over last year's results. Joining the group is Belgium, as they get bumped up after winning Division III last year. The Belgians will look for a way to stay up in Division II. South Korea rounds out the group, joining the field after getting relegated from Group A last year. They will want to keep their stay short, aiming to get back to Group A.

Prediction

1 (Promoted) - South Korea
2 - Spain
3 - Belgium
4 - Serbia
5 - Australia
6 (Relegated) - Belgium

South Korea was barely relegated last year, as they did tie for fifth but didn't hold the tiebreaker. It's easy to see them go back up to Group A. The host Spain always seem to be close, but unable to get over the hump, and it looked to be much of the same here. The middle is likely to stay the same. An improving Serbia finishing third again might not be the surprise it was last year. Belgium again finds a way to finish fourth again. Australia was abysmal last year, and I can see much of the same for them. The newly promoted Belgians aren't expected to hang around for long, and will finish last, resulting in going back to Division III.
