Showing Some International Love: 2016 IIHF World Championship Preview - Division I Group A

Poland host this year's edition of the Division I Group A tournament. The host finished a distance third last year, and will be looking to at least close the gap if they aren't able to seek into a promotion spot. Austria and Slovenia are back in Division I after getting relegated from the main tournament last year. Both of them are hoping to keep their stay short. South Korea was promoted to this level, and will look to continue on as they prepare for the Olympics in 2018. Italy and Japan round out the group, as they both hope to improve form last year's performance.

Prediction

1 (Promoted) - Austria
2 (Promoted) - Slovenia
3 - Italy
4 - Japan
5 - Poland
6 (Relegated) - South Korea

It looks to be much of the same, as Austria and Slovenia will continue to yo-yo back and forth between the main tournament and this one. Italy will improve a bit, but not enough to disturb the top two spots. Japan and Poland are likely to fall in line at four and five (respectively). South Korea is the odd team out, as they look to be headed back down to Group B.
