2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs Review - (2) Montreal Canadiens vs. (7) Ottawa Senators

Series Summary

I hate writing this. Ottawa took the early lead in the series after 3 third period goals, but all the talk after Game 1 was the Gryba hit on Eller. The Habs did rebound in Game 2 with a 3-1 win. Game 3 was ok, until the third period when things went to hell. A line brawl was sandwiched by two Ottawa goals, multiple fights and cheap shots afterwards marred an already bad period for the Habs. In the end, Jean-Gabriel Pageau finished the game by scoring his hat trick goal. Game 5 was a lot more tamer, with the Habs leading after the second before Ottawa tied it up in the third. Carey Price injured his knee at the end of the third and was replaced by Budaj for overtime. It didn't take long for Ottawa to get the winner, as Turris threw a shot that was deflected by Diaz and went in. It would have been nice to say the Habs gave it their all in Game 6, key words: would have. Montreal seemed to slow down after the Turris goal was allowed. Ottawa once again poured it on in the third period. The Ottawa Senators beat the Montreal Canadiens in five games, and are now waiting to see who their next opponent is.

Three Six Thoughts On The Series
  • TABASLOUNE!
  • The Gryba hit seems like a weird one to me. It is a play he should make and the hit wasn't too bad but the outcome was horrific. The game misconduct is understandable, but the suspension seemed unwarranted.
  • Relating to that hit, this was a bad series for Raphael Diaz (aka Player 61). The suicide pass to Eller right before that hit, then the tip-in own goal in overtime in Game 4. Was starting to hope that Kaberle would come in and replace him.
  • The key to winning games in this series: losing teeth. Habs players should have started pulling teeth out starting Game 4.
  • Injuries just killed the Habs. Probably the worst was Price's wonky injury in Game 4. I like Budaj but wasn't comfortable with him in net in a playoff game. Near the end Game 5 (with it out of reach) I was hoping Mayer be placed in net just for the hell of it.
  • Credit to Craig Anderson, he is a big reason the Sens move on to the second round.

Stay classy, Ottawa Sun, stay classy.

Play Of The Series

LINE BRAWL!!!!!11!!!!!1!

Honourable mention: Rene Bourque's backhander in Game 1, that shot gets everyone pregnant.
