Series Recap
QMJHL vs. Russia: Game 1 was close, but the line of Drouin, Hudon and Mantha were the difference makers. They contributed on all 3 QMJHL goals, while Zach Fucale stopped 19 of 21 shots to give the QMJHL the win. The QMJHL did outplay Russia more in Game 2, but both teams ended up swapping goals. In the end, the QMJHL did get the last goal, winning the game 4-3.
OHL vs. Russia: For the first time ever, the Russian team swept the OHL. Despite getting dominated in Game 1, Russia had an easier time scoring. They were able to put up a 5-spot while Ivan Nalimov stopped 41 of 43 shots, giving Russia a 5-2 win in Game 1. Game 2 was much of the same, as the OHL dominated in shots while Nalimov stopped most of them. However, Russia wasn't able to score like they did in the previous game. In the end, both teams needed a shootout to break a 2-2 draw. The shootout ended in the 8th round, when Nikolai Skladnichenko scored to give Russia the win and the series sweep.
WHL vs. Russia: The Russians went in to Game 1 with some momentum, but it was the WHL who struck early, as Griffin Reinhart scored less than a minute in. Russia did end the period on top though. While the WHL did manage to tie the game up, an early third period goal was all Russia needed to secure the 3-2 win. Game 2 saw Russia take a 2-0 lead after the first, but that was it for them. The WHL controlled most of the game, and their efforts were rewarded later on, as they scored twice in the second and third. The 4-2 win for the WHL gave the CHL the overall win against the Russian Selects.
