Showing Some International Love: 2014 World Junior Championship - Division I Group A Preview

The newly-promoted Poland are the host in this tournament, and hope to stay up in this Group. Newly-relegated Latvia want to get back into the main tournament, but will have to contend with the likes of Belarus and Denmark, both of which came close to earning a promotion last year. Austria and Slovenia are the other teams in the tournament and are considered also-rans.

Prediction

1 (Promoted) - Denmark
2 - Latvia
3 - Belarus
4 - Austria
5 - Slovenia
6 (Relegated) - Poland

From the looks of things it'll be Denmark and Latvia battling it out to not be in Division I for next year (pretty hard to say that whomever wins stays in the main tournament for more than a year). I'm more high on the Danish team than I am on the most Latvian team to ever be Latvia. After finishing 2nd last year, I see Belarus taking a step back and finishing 3rd. Austria and Slovenia are interchangeable, but I'll give the Austrians the nod this year. I doubt Poland has a chance in this group, and will be relegated back to Group B.
