Suspension Of The Week
Anthony Peluso boarding Alex Goligoski earned him 3 games. This seems like a common play gone wrong. Usually when a guy (like Peluso) on the play tries to rub-out another player rom behinf, it's a gradual direct into the boards. Peluso's initial line of attack was too wide, which lead him to over compensate and hit Goligoski's back in a more direct matter. This probably should have been the going rate of 2 games, but 3 games is fine.
Corey Potter boarding Nick Bonino resulted in Potter sitting down for 2 games. This was probably worst than the Peluso hit. Bonino was some distance from the boards when Potter cross-checked him. Potter was also following Bonino for a bit prior to hitting him. In both incidents (this one and Peluso's), both victims returned to the game (Goligoski had to get stitched up) and this is the first supplemental discipline for both offenders. I think Potter's incident should have been the 3-gamer, but it's only 2 games.
Deryk Engelland hitting Justin Abdelkader earned him 5 games. This one I go back and forth on. Abdelkader is leaning forward, exposing his head. This isn't much time between when both Engelland and Abdelkader are leaning for the puck and the hit. I had to watch it multiple times but I did end up seeing Engelland hit Adbelkader's head before his body. The hit would probably be 2-3 on it's own, but with injury and priors this becomes a 5-gamer.
This week's award goes to Deryk Engelland. It takes a special kind of skill (for lack of a better term) to hurt a guy without the assistance of the boards.
