Fireball Player
(He's so hot, nothing is gonna put this guy out)
Timo Meier. Outside of a penalty near the end of the second he had a good game, scoring once and made a few good plays (and had a few good opportunities to score, but couldn't capitalize).
Snake Bitten Player
(No amount of sucking will help get the poison out of him)
I can't really pick out one player. I'll just say that there were a lot more bad passes than usual.
Play of the Game
(Every game has a defining moment, this is probably it)
Basically the last 2-and-a-bit minutes of the first period. Both teams swapped goals twice in that time.
Notes
- This is the first of a back-to-back. If things go well then I should be at Saturday's game too.
- The first period was definitely not lacking of action. Along with the above golaza that happened, both team put up quite a few shots (17 for Moncton, 12 for Halifax).
- For the rest of the game, Moncton only managed 9 shots on net. Halifax had 17 shots in the second period (and followed up with 13 in the third).
- Because it was a game against Moncton, I have to gush about Garland. He had a pretty nice goal were he skated backwards into the high slot, turned and fired the puck past Dubeau.
- A lot of credit to Dubeau and the Moncton defence for protecting that lead in the third period.
- The Mooseheads had a few offensive zone faceoffs in the last 3 minutes of the game, yet they didn't pull Darveau until closer to a minute left. While pulling the goalie early bugs me as a goalie, I still see the logic in taking the risk with more time on the clock.
- There was a scrum at the end of the game, but not much came out of it.
