Fireball Player
(He's so hot, nothing is gonna put this guy out)

MacKenzie Weegar. 2 goals, fighting Quebec's Adam Erne after he hit Drouin from behind, Weegar did almost everything in this game.

Snake Bitten Player
(No amount of sucking will help get the poison out of him)

The rest of the defence. I haven't seen a bakery with more turnovers than the Mooseheads in this game. Breakways were an issue too, as Halifax gave up (what seemed like) a, extraordinary amount of partial/full breakways in this game.

Play of the Game
(Every game has a defining moment, this is probably it)

I'm giving this nod to Weegar's second goal. He skates from the point right into the high slot and just wristed it past Brassard.

Notes
  • This was the first time I've seen the Remparts jersey this year and I must say, I like it. The whites have a pretty nice, clean look to them.
  • Despite Halifax outshooting Quebec 41-25, it still seemed like the game was even.
  • Halifax scored 2 of their goals on the powerplay, finishing the game 2/8 on the PP. Those 2 seem generous, as they stayed stationary for most of their powerplays and multiple times Quebec had shorthanded breakaways.
  • Adam Erne was only in the game for the first 12 minutes, but was only an assist short of a Gordie Howe Hat-trick. He scored on a breakaway after Matt Murphy lost the puck as his own blueline. Erne was then in a fight after hitting Drouin from behind. Weegar ended up wrestling Erne to the ice. Erne was then given a game misconduct for the hit along with a fighting major.
  • Drouin was cut on that hit, but was stitched up and ready to go by the time the refs sorted out the penalties.
  • Much credit to Herzog for his goal. He fought through 2 Moosehead defenders checking him (shorthanded no less) and put it low blocker on Fucale.
  • Erne wasn't the only Rempart ejected from the game, as Nick Sorensen was given a match penalty for cross checking Darcy Ashley into the boards in the second period.
  • As you could probably tell it was a really physical game, capped off by a nice hit by Hardie on a Rempart that tried to cut though the slot.
  • The third period went from the Remparts injuring guys to being injured. Zach Moody took a point shot (from his own guy) to the hip early in the third (to add insult to injury, the pat on the back by the backup goalie on the bench when Moody reached the bench door looked like a push onto the bench). Brent Turnbull was then injured after taking a hip check by Hardie to the knee (it looked like he clipped the knee, didn't go extremely low on the hit). Turnbull needed assistance getting up and to the bench.
  • Halifax did get a powerplay in the last minute of regulation, but the only thing they accomplished was getting the game to overtime. They looked disinterested in trying to end the game in the third.
  • While Halifax did lose in the shootout, they almost lost at the start of overtime, as Duclair took off after the opening faceoff and had a chance, but was stopped by Fucale.
  • UPDATE: Drouin did suffer a concussion on the hit.
