Fireball Player
(He's so hot, nothing is gonna put this guy out)
Zach Fucale. He kept this game close for the Moosehead, stopping 31 shots in the lost (and made a good 2-on-0 save).
Snake Bitten Player
(No amount of sucking will help get the poison out of him)
When nobody scores, the team deserves to be in this section.
Play of the Game
(Every game has a defining moment, this is probably it)
The bad boarding penalty that Brendan Duke took plus Brian Lovell's subsequent delay of game penalty in the third lead to Moncton's first goal. A cross-the-slot pass to a wide open Lalonde who tucked it home (after his second try).
Notes
- Alex Dubeau was named first star this game and he deserved it. He stopped all 31 shots he faced, giving Moncton the chance to win.
- The Mooseheads did a good job blocking cross-ice/backdoor passes in the first period. They did a bad job of it in the third.
- Surprised that there weren't many scrums in the game. Weegar's boarding penalty and the end of the first period were the only times I remember there being some post-whistle activity.
- Meier laid out a Wildcat player in the neutral zone. I regret not getting a photo of it.
- Moncton did manage a goal in the second, but it was called back due to goalie interference.
- To Halifax's credit, they did get a few good chances, but either lost the puck or Dubeau would make the save.
- I do question the decision to pull Fucale when they did. Halifax was shorthanded, so getting possession of the puck would be hard enough, but he was pulled AFTER they iced the puck. Moncton had little trouble turning around and getting the empty net goal to seal it. Just saying, next time a situation like this happens, maybe have control of the puck before pulling the goalie.
