Game Recap: Moncton Wildcats vs. Halifax Mooseheads

Halifax Mooseheads vs. Moncton Wildcats

Final Score
Moncton - 2
Halifax - 1

Goalscorers
Moncton: Christopher Caissy, Josh Pugsley
Halifax: Connor Moynihan

Goalies
Moncton: Alex Dubeau (W)
Halifax: Kevin Darveau (L)

Fireball Player
(He's so hot, nothing is gonna put this guy out)

Kevin Darveau. He had a better game than last night, stopping 32 of 34 shots. Still, the should have had that second Moncton goal.

Snake Bitten Player
(No amount of sucking will help get the poison out of him)

Austyn Hardie for the couple penalties he took. Granted, Moncton only scored on his first one, and the spearing call was iffy at best.

Play of the Game
(Every game has a defining moment, this is probably it)

The second Wildcats goal. Darveau made the initial save, but didn't squeeze hard enough and the puck ended up trickling through into the net. It definitely felt like that would be the winning goal and it was.

Notes
  • The game seemed to have started where it left off, with Halifax getting most of the shots. But in the end the shots were pretty even throughout (Halifax 37, Moncton 36).
  • 4 of Hardie's 6 PIMs was on a spear to Garland. This led to Garland getting booed every time he touched the puck during the powerplay.
  • During those 4 minutes, Darveau made three nice cross-crease saves to keep the Mooseheads tied.
  • Another good thing about that penalty kill, they hit everything in sight for the first minute. That lead to Moncton taking a penalty of it's own, leading to 4-on-4 for 2 minutes.
  • Brendan Bailey's third period goalie interference call was the result of Dubeau doing his best Mike Smith impression (and the Oscar goes to....someone else).
  • Once again, credit to Dubeau and the Wildcats defence for shutting it down in the third.
  • And once again, O-zone faceoff with 2:30 left in the third, and Darveau is still in net. Just once, Coach Ducharme, just once try it. If it doesn't work out then I'll shut up.
  • During the back-to-back, the Mooseheads called up a few players, with one being Maxime Fortier. I got to say I'm impress with the kid, and hope he sticks around when some of the regulars come back into the lineup.
  • Speaking of regulars, congrats to Nikolaj Ehlers for helping Denmark make the main tournament. My review of that Division I tournament goes up Sunday night.
